The ECR has recently conducted a diagnostic English Placement Test to assess the language proficiency of its first-semester students. This test, part of the Interdisciplinary Disciplines area of the institution, aims to determine students’ current level in English to assign them to courses tailored to their needs.

The Placement Test, which includes oral and written sections, evaluated skills such as listening comprehension, reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and oral production. The test revealed areas of strength like written comprehension and students’ motivation to improve their language skills. Additionally, a significant group of students achieved more advanced levels corresponding to B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference, suggesting good performance in basic skills across all areas.

Based on these results, the ECR is implementing strategies to strengthen the specific skills where students showed the greatest difficulties. This includes grammar workshops, pronunciation practice, and activities to expand vocabulary within their classroom pedagogical practices. Furthermore, individual tutoring is being offered to those who need extra support, and access to the Inglés 25 platform is provided.

Inglés 25 is an online platform that supports and complements the second language learning process at the ECR. Structured into 8 modules comprising 65 units of study, each unit includes an interactive grammar class and a conversational class on the same topic, allowing students to practice all English skills comprehensively (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).

This initiative reflects the ECR’s commitment to high quality and its goal of preparing students for a globalized environment. With these actions, the ECR seeks not only to improve English proficiency but also to enhance students’ academic and professional opportunities in an increasingly interconnected world.
